Ralph Peterson, Principal

I was born in Augusta, Maine but consider my hometown to be Wilmington Massachusetts. I graduated from Colby College in Waterville Maine with a degree in history. I began my career in education as a substitute teacher and football coach at my hometown high school in the early 1980’s. I later moved to Maine where I taught high school history and coached football and track for many years. Eventually, I became a Principal and served at two schools in Maine.. Later, I moved to NH. I have been the Principal of the Lempster Community School (and track coach) for the past 14 years.

I am married and have three grown daughters and 3 grandchildren. All of my daughters have visited the Lempster Community School over the years. I can assure you that my wife and daughters have heard many stories, watched numerous music and athletic videos and have listened to me brag about our great school on a frequent basis.

I have many interests besides athletics. One of them is the American Civil War. It has been a lifelong hobby and for many years I have belonged to an online Civil War gaming club that “plays” Civil War battles over the internet. Recently, I have picked up a couple of new hobbies - playing drums and guitar - it's been fun to provide l lessons in both instruments to some of our students.

I have loved my time at Lempster. The staff members I have worked with have been fabulous and we are truly a team of educators. I am also deeply appreciative of the support our great school has received over the years through our wonderful school boards and citizens;who year after year have nearly unanimously approved school budgets as well as the many Lempster individuals who have contributed to the school and students in so many ways.

But of course it is about the children! They are the best! When you watch children grow up year after year from kindergarten to 8th grade it is like they become part of your family. Nothing in my educational career has been as fulfilling and enjoyable as getting to know and work with the super kids of our school! It would be a great understatement to say that my years at Lempster have been the best of my more than 35 year career in education!
